端午節別稱端五節、重五節、五日節（農曆五月五日），端午節文化的由來有很多說法，也各有不同的故事，唯一相同的是「划龍舟」這個習俗，學術界目前主流的想法是以「祭蛟龍、祭水神」有關的，其他的起源傳說有的與時令中的夏至有關、有的與特定歷史偉人有關，像是吳國的伍子胥與楚國的愛國詩人屈原，台灣本土的故事則與唐朝的黃巢造反有關，屈原的版本是最廣為人知的，不過屈原版本的故事千年以前，就已有龍舟的習俗了，再加上台灣本土風俗也同樣會慶祝沒有屈原的龍舟節，多年現在時不時會被拿出來討論是否為真的起源或是近代建構出來的。也因為端午節是國定假日，若遇上連假，台灣人喜歡藉由出遊、吃美食、互贈禮物好好慶賀一番。
